Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician at the West Allis location. The role involves receiving contaminated items, decontamination, sterilization, and preparation of instrument sets according to policy.

You will handle high-cost equipment with care, document inventories, and collaborate with surgical teams to ensure safe, timely patient care. Qualified candidates will have a CRCST/CSPDT or CFER certification, a high school diploma, and about two years of Sterile Processing or

Qualifications

• Ability to function in fast paced, high-stress environments.
• Advanced understanding of AORN and AAMI standards and instrumentation.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and sterilization principles.

Responsibilities

• Receive soiled items and prepare instruments for decontamination.
• Sterilize equipment using aerator, gas, or steam sterilizers; ensure sterility and proper packaging.
• Manage high-cost instrumentation with proper handling and documentation.
• Build case carts per procedure; maintain records and respond to Code 4s with back-up supplies.
• Check trays for completeness; communicate gaps to departments and track missing parts.
• Identify sterilizer issues and take prompt corrective actions when needed.
• Process supply orders and maintain accurate stock and billing records.
• Assist in patient positioning and lifting per safe technique.
• Coordinate with nursing and other departments to support SPD operations.
