Job summary

Fivetran is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Performance Engineering Team in a hybrid role based out of our Oakland office. You will ensure product performance, design performance enhancements, and drive tests and improvements across the stack.

The role emphasizes hands‑on implementation, strong technical skills, and collaboration across Engineering, Product and SRE to improve reliability and efficiency.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of hands‑on software industry experience tackling complex engineering problems.
• Experience architecting reliable distributed systems with emphasis on high‑volume data management.
• Experience and expertise building backend services and data systems.
• Experience with a wide range of algorithms and data structures.
• Strong knowledge of Java and databases.
• Knowledge of observability tools such as New Relic, Splunk, DataDog is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and debug code to identify and fix performance issues.
• Analyze production workloads and system performance metrics to identify bottlenecks.
• Build proofs of concepts and translate successful ones into production solutions to maximize product performance and efficiency.
• Build and maintain a platform that improves performance, resilience and quality of Fivetran products.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (Developers, Product, SRE) to align strategy and improve reliability and processes.
• Engage in design and code reviews to ensure performant solutions.
