Fivetran is seeking a Staff Software Engineer on the Performance Engineering team in Oakland. You will ensure our product base meets performance standards, design performance-enhancing features, and run performance tests while collaborating across engineering teams.

The role requires deep expertise in backend data systems, Java, and observability, with a hands-on approach to implementation and continuous improvement in a hybrid Oakland office environment.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience.
• Experience architecting reliable distributed systems with high-volume data.
• Back-end services and data systems expertise.
• Strong Java and database knowledge.
• Familiar with observability tools like New Relic, Splunk, DataDog (nice-to-have).

Responsibilities

• Develop and Debug code to identify and fix performance issues.
• Analyze production workloads and system performance metrics to identify bottlenecks.
• Build proof of concepts and translate successful ones into performance solutions.
• Build and maintain a platform to improve performance, resilience and quality of products.
• Impact Fivetran business across product verticals through the work you do.
• Develop deep expertise in Fivetran's Product, Infrastructure, and Platform.
• Coordinate strategy with engineering teams and propose reliability improvements.
• Work with cross-functional teams (Developers, Product, SRE).
• Engage in design and code reviews to ensure performant solutions.
