Job summary

Rivian seeks a Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical development of traction inverter systems from concept to mass production at the Carson, CA facility. You will own end-to-end mechanical architecture and manage a team of engineers, shaping standards across the Power Electronics organization.

This role requires expertise in high-pressure die casting, injection molding, sheet metal, HV/LV busbar design, and DFMEAs, with strong leadership to drive supplier collaboration and program

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field; Master’s preferred.
• 8+ years in development and packaging of Power Electronics assemblies.
• Proficiency with CATIA V5/V6 (3DEXPERIENCE) for design workbenches.
• Experience with high-pressure die casting, injection molding and sheet metal.
• Expertise in HV/LV busbar design, harness routing and sealing systems.
• Knowledge of joining technologies: laser welding, soldering, TIM.
• Strong GD&T skills and DFMEAs across mechanical, electrical, thermal domains.
• Experience with ENOVIA PLM and external supplier management.

Responsibilities

• Directly manage and develop a team of mechanical engineers with goals and reviews.
• Define team structure, workload, and hiring needs with leadership.
• Lead mechanical architect for traction inverter assemblies from packaging to detail.
• Define mechanical design standards and best practices across Power Electronics.
• Drive architecture reviews and gate decisions for manufacturability and scalability.
• Design complex subsystems including die casting, plastics, busbars, harnesses and PCBA integration.
• Own the mechanical release cycle in ENOVIA and BOM integrity across programs.
• Lead weekly technical reviews with suppliers to resolve design items and ensure DFMA.
• Act as escalation point for Supply Chain and Supplier Quality on critical issues.
• Support DV test plans and regulatory compliance for long-term reliability.
