Job summary

Divergent is seeking a Senior/Staff Mechanical Engineer to own the mechanical design and deployment of automation systems forming the foundation of Divergent’s Adaptive Production Systems (DAPS). This hands-on role requires translating needs into robust designs and leading cross-functional execution across engineering, manufacturing, and operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Track record of architecting and delivering complex mechanical systems.
• Expert in 3D CAD, drawings, GD&T, tolerance analysis, and design for manufacturability.
• Broad understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals.
• Ability to convert ambiguous needs into practical designs.
• Hands-on prototype development and testing experience.
• Ability to lead cross-functional technical work and communicate decisions.
• Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical guidance.
• Ability to perform hands-on work around industrial equipment (up to 25 lb).

Responsibilities

• Own the mechanical design and development of significant automation systems from concept through deployment.
• Translate needs into system requirements and interfaces with multiple teams.
• Develop mechanical architectures and designs using CAD, drawings, GD&T, BOM.
• Apply mechanical engineering expertise across structures, motion, fluids, and thermal systems.
• Evaluate tradeoffs across performance, reliability, safety, cost, and schedule.
• Lead technical coordination across engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and suppliers.
• Provide technical guidance and conduct design reviews for engineers.
• Contribute to standards, practices, and reusable designs for faster automation development.
• Drive readiness of systems through release, procurement, manufacturing planning, validation, and deployment.
