Job summary

IonQ, Inc. is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead the hybrid execution efforts for our Hosted Hybrid Service. You will define and build a platform that makes hybrid quantum-classical workloads easy to write, extend, and run in production.

The role requires building and leading the team, shaping the execution model, and collaborating with HPC, Cloud and Product teams. Remote-friendly hybrid work and a strong background in cloud services are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years software engineering experience.
• Experience as a technical lead delivering projects in dynamic environments.
• Experience designing, building, and operating cloud-hosted services or APIs.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience defining extensible service or function models (e.g. plugin architectures or FaaS).
• Experience designing developer-facing libraries or SDKs used by external customers.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of our Hosted Hybrid Service, partnering with product management.
• Define the execution model for the hybrid service and extendability for HPC.
• Drive the infrastructure strategy for classical compute backing hybrid jobs.
• Build and maintain a library of reusable quantum workloads.
• Establish best practices for code development, QA, documentation, CI/CD.
• Collaborate across HPC, Cloud, and Product teams and communicate with leadership.
• Mentor junior staff and help build the team around you.
