Job summary

IonQ, Inc. is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead our hybrid execution efforts in Bothell, WA, with partial remote flexibility. You will shape the platform that unifies quantum and classical computing, enabling scalable, production‑ready workloads.

You will define execution models, drive infrastructure strategy, and mentor a growing team while collaborating with product and cloud teams to deliver industry‑leading quantum services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent practical experience.
• Demonstrated experience as a technical lead in dynamic environments.
• 10+ years experience in software engineering.
• Experience designing, building, and operating cloud‑hosted services or APIs.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience defining extensible service models (plugin architectures or FaaS).
• Experience designing developer‑facing libraries or SDKs.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of the Hosted Hybrid Service and define the product with PM input.
• Define the execution model for the hybrid service and how quantum–classical workloads are defined and extended.
• Drive the infrastructure strategy for classical compute that backs hybrid jobs.
• Build and maintain a library of reusable quantum workloads for customers and internal teams.
• Establish best practices for code development, QA, documentation, and CI/CD.
• Collaborate across HPC, Cloud, and Product teams and communicate with leadership.
• Mentor junior staff and help build a team around you.
