IonQ, Inc. is seeking a Software Engineering Director to lead the core IonQ Quantum Cloud platform and its APIs. The role combines technical direction with business impact, spanning cloud and on-prem deployments.

The ideal candidate will drive strategic initiatives, manage multi‑tenant cloud APIs at scale, and collaborate with product, research, and engineering leaders to define long‑term technology choices. Hybrid locations supported in Bothell, WA or College Park, MD.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of progressive technical leadership experience.
• 7+ years designing and operating cloud APIs and services at scale.
• Experience leading distributed teams across multiple time zones.
• Experience shipping and operating business-critical distributed systems.
• Experience managing teams using AI agents for engineering tasks.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the technical roadmap for IonQ's quantum platform and cloud API.
• Own API design and versioning strategy for IonQ Quantum Cloud.
• Partner with developer tools leadership to integrate cloud services with client SDKs.
• Drive cross-functional initiatives with product, research, and engineering leadership.
• Manage cloud provider integrations (AWS, Azure, GCP) and align with cloud strategy.
• Develop and manage the cloud services portfolio budget and cost optimization.
• Define and track KPIs for the cloud platform and report to executives.
• Provide technical leadership for scalable software solutions for on‑prem and hybrid contexts.
