Job summary

GEICO is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer for Performance and Observability to design, implement, and optimize high-performance cloud platforms. You will advance monitoring, observability, and automation across OpenStack-based environments, while contributing to CI/CD and containerization initiatives.

The role emphasizes Python scripting, Ansible automation, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure reliability, scalability, and rapid delivery in a remote-friendly setup.

Qualifications

• Strong experience with monitoring, logging, alerting and observability in cloud environments.
• Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting in cloud environments.
• Deep familiarity with Grafana and Prometheus.
• Experience with Python programming and scripting.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools and workflows (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD).
• Proficiency in Ansible for automation and configuration management.
• Experience with OpenStack administration and operations preferred.
• Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Good understanding of networking and security best practices in cloud deployments.

Responsibilities

• Improve monitoring, observability and performance of deployed systems.
• Design, deploy, and manage OpenStack-based cloud environments.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts and playbooks using Python, Ansible, and GitHub Workflows.
• Implement and optimize CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and application delivery.
• Support containerization initiatives (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues in cloud and automation workflows.
• Collaborate with development, operations, and security teams.
• Share best practices and improve processes within and across teams.
• Participate in on-call and operational support as needed.
• Mentor junior engineers
