The Utilities Engineer works under the general supervision of the Engineering Manager for Water Utilities. This position represents the interests of the Department through interactions with the Public Works Engineering Division, engineering consultants, project related contractors, other water and sewer utilities, and developers. This position is responsible for asset management, coordinating and monitoring capital improvement projects, performing periodic plan reviews, collecting and evaluating data regarding the water and wastewater systems, project management, provides engineering support to utility operations, prepares and delivers public presentations and may interact with elected and appointed officials, city staff, utility customers and other interested parties.**Requirements****Sr. Staff Engineer*** Graduation from an ABET accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or closely related field* Licensed as a Professional Engineer. Licensed in the State of Missouri within one year of hire* Considerable experience with five years' experience in engineering with a focus on water and wastewater projects/services* A valid state driver's license, must maintain an insurable driving recordSalary range: $78,249-$117,373**Utilities Engineer*** Graduation from an ABET accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or closely related field* Have passed the Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) Exam* Valid Driver’s License required, must maintain an insurable driving record* This position is typically an entry level position; no experience required \*Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Salary range: $60,047-$90,068 **Typical Qualifications**Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:* Skills in engineering design, analysis and calculations.* Skills in technical writing and correspondence and ability to communicate orally with consulting engineers, contractors, developers, the public, city staff and elected officials.* Skills in project management administration, general understanding of contracts, and the ability to interpret construction contracts and specifications.* General knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to the water/wastewater industry. Thorough knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in wastewater collection and water distribution systems.* Knowledge of asset management, condition assessment, and evaluation studies* Knowledge of sewer and water pipe installation and repair.* Knowledge of pump station design and troubleshooting.* Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, service providers and the public.* Ability to analyze technical information and identify solutions.* Ability to organize data collection activities.* Basic understanding of surveying.
