Job summary

Becton Dickinson (BD) is seeking an Senior Staff Software Engineer to design and deliver embedded software for electro-mechanical medical devices across multiple portfolios. You will influence architectural decisions, drive performance, and ensure regulatory compliance (IEC 62304) throughout the lifecycle.

The role requires deep embedded expertise, strong problem-solving, and the ability to mentor teams in a global matrix environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline is required.
• 8+ years of professional software development experience.
• Experience developing software for medical devices or other regulated, safety-critical products.
• Experience in a controlled product lifecycle: requirements, architecture, design, implementation, verification, configuration management, change control, documentation, problem resolution.
• Strong embedded software development experience with C/C++, RTOS, microcontrollers or processors, hardware–software interfaces, and debugging.

Responsibilities

• Lead or substantially contribute to software architecture, requirements, design, implementation, integration, debugging, code reviews, testing, and technical decision-making.
• Develop and maintain embedded software and firmware solutions including RTOS-based applications and device drivers.
• Translate user needs and product requirements into clear, testable software requirements and design solutions.
• Apply regulated software-development practices across the product lifecycle, including design controls and risk management.
• Create and maintain software lifecycle deliverables: plans, architecture/design docs, source code, test evidence, and release docs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Marketing, Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Quality, Regulatory, Verification & Validation, Cybersecurity, and Operations.
• Support product complaints, field issues, software anomalies, audits, regulatory submissions, and complex investigations.
• Contribute to connected-device and companion application solutions, including cybersecurity and lifecycle maintenance.
• Mentor engineers and promote technical excellence, communicating risks and tradeoffs to diverse stakeholders.
