Reddit is seeking a Senior Staff Data Scientist on the Consumer team to lead relevance measurement and evaluation across feeds, search, and recommendations. You will set metrics, define analytical frameworks, and influence product strategy through rigorous analysis and experimentation.

you will shape how Reddit understands content quality and retention, partnering with ML squads to tackle complex ranking and retrieval challenges at scale.

Qualifications

• PhD or MS with deep expertise in ranking/recommendation systems and evaluation.
• 8+ years (PhD) or 12+ years (MS) of industry experience in relevance/ranking roles.
• Strong expertise in offline metrics and counterfactual evaluation.
• Proven ability to influence product strategy with data-driven insights.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical authority on relevance metrics and evaluation for Consumer.
• Develop metrics frameworks and offline evaluation for ranking and recommendation.
• Design experiments for relevance features, accounting for networked platform challenges.
• Identify opportunities where measurement unlocks product insights.
• Partner with ML engineers to translate metrics into user-facing impact.
