Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Sr. Staff Data Engineer (Remote-Eligible) to lead data platform initiatives and drive scalable, reusable solutions across the enterprise. You will mentor engineers, collaborate with data scientists, and shape technical strategy for modern data platforms.

You’ll specialize in AWS, Lakehouse architectures, and big data technologies like Spark, Snowflake, and Databricks, while writing Python, SQL, Java, and/or Scala code to deliver impactful outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related quantitative field.
• At least 9 years of experience in data engineering.
• At least 5 years of experience in data architecture.
• At least 3 years of experience building applications in AWS.
• At least 7 years of experience programming with Python, Java, or Scala.
• At least 6 years of experience designing and developing data pipelines.
• At least 4 years of experience in data modeling and designing end-to-end data solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead through technical contribution and act as a trusted advisor for key data technologies.
• Drive the strategic direction of data engineering, data sharing, and platform scalability.
• Mentor junior engineers and recruit external talent to bolster Capital One Tech.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders across the enterprise to drive consensus and adoption.
• Develop and socialize data strategy artifacts like governance policies and architecture blueprints.
