Job summary

SonderMind is hiring a Senior Staff Data Engineer to lead the Data Platform team, shaping data systems that power analytics, ML, experiments, and clinical outcomes. You will own data infrastructure with autonomy, drive best practices, and enable teams to move faster with trusted data in a regulated healthcare environment.

You will mentor other engineers, define data contracts, and guide architecture decisions while collaborating with product, clinical, and operations teams to deliver

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in data engineering or backend engineering roles.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and Python.
• Hands‑on experience building and maintaining production data pipelines at scale.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain core data pipelines and infrastructure for analytics, experimentation, ML, and AI use cases.
• Own data architecture decisions for ingestion, transformation, storage, and serving layers with a focus on scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency.
• Establish data quality, observability, and reliability standards with SLAs, monitoring, and incident response for critical datasets.
• Partner with analytics, data science, and product engineering to translate data needs into well‑designed models and pipelines.
• Lead technical initiatives and drive best practices across the data engineering team, including code quality and testing.
• Ensure data systems meet privacy and compliance requirements, handling sensitive mental health data.
• Mentor and support other data engineers, raising engineering standards.
• Support ad‑hoc projects as business and platform needs evolve.
