Job summary

SonderMind is hiring a Senior Staff Data Engineer to lead data platform initiatives, designing scalable pipelines for analytics, ML, and clinical outcomes. You will shape data architecture, enforce quality, and collaborate with multiple teams in a regulated healthcare environment.

You will mentor others, drive best practices, and ensure privacy and security, while delivering reliable, trusted data across the organization.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in data engineering, platform engineering, or backend engineering.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and Python.
• Hands-on experience building production data pipelines at scale.
• Experience with cloud data warehouses and orchestration tools.
• Knowledge of data modeling and system design trade-offs.
• Ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain core data pipelines and infrastructure powering analytics, ML, and experimentation.
• Own data architecture decisions for ingestion, transformation, storage, and serving layers.
• Establish data quality, observability, and reliability standards including SLAs and monitoring.
• Collaborate with analytics, data science, and product engineering to translate needs into data models.
• Lead code quality, testing, documentation, and data contracts across the team.
• Ensure privacy, security, and compliance for sensitive healthcare data.
• Mentor and coach other data engineers to raise engineering standards.
• Support ad-hoc projects as needs evolve.
