Job summary

Transgender Law Center seeks a Senior Staff Attorney to lead the Litigation Team, focusing on investigating, developing, and litigating cases for transgender and gender-nonconforming people. The role offers remote work or presence in Oakland or Brooklyn offices.

You will manage all litigation stages, collaborate with co-counsel, draft briefs, and contribute to advocacy and know-your-rights resources, with travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Bar membership in one or more states.
• Six+ years of experience in civil rights litigation, criminal defense, immigration, or legal aid.
• At least two years of litigation experience.
• Pro-bono collaboration experience preferred.
• Experience with incarceration, criminalization or law enforcement policy advocacy.
• Familiarity with transgender and gender-nonconforming communities.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and develop potential cases, interview clients, research records, and draft demand letters.
• Develop litigation strategy, manage co-counsel relationships, conduct legal research, draft briefs.
• Handle all stages of litigation: motions, discovery, trials, appeals, settlements.
• Support existing teams on ongoing litigation as needed.
• Engage in advocacy and create resources for community education and know-your-rights materials.
• Travel and long hours may be required.
