The Hartford. Senior Staff Attorney—remote role serving clients in New York. 7–10 years of litigation experience in motor-vehicle, premises liability and Labor Law/construction cases is ideal.

Candidate must hold JD and be admitted to the New York State Bar. The position emphasizes independent handling of cases, strong writing, research, and collaborative teamwork with Claims customers and co-counsel.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school and license to practice in New York State.
• 7–10 years of litigation experience.
• Strong legal research and writing skills.
• Excellent organizational and communication abilities.
• First Chair trial experience is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Independently handle lawsuits involving motor-vehicle accidents, premises liability, and Labor Law/construction accidents.
• Prepare pleadings, written discovery, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies without supervision.
• Conduct legal research and independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clients.
• Analyze substantive and procedural legal and factual issues.
• Provide effective and timely communications, legal advice and other services to Claims customers and clients on legal and factual issues in a technology driven environment.
• Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel and co-counsel in a manner consistent with established office procedures.
• Prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned cases.
• Attend continuing legal education seminars in order to maintain a high level of professional expertise.
