Job summary

The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) seeks a Senior Staff Attorney to serve as the Legislative Resource and Analysis Coordinator, leading internal billreview and coordinating crossdivisional efforts.

You will provide in-depth legal analysis of proposed legislation, support governance bodies, and guide staff across divisions in structured reviews, reporting to executive leadership.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
• Membership in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association.
• Six years of experience as a practicing attorney or in similar legal work.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate AOC’s internal legislative billreview process and lead crossdivisional billreview meetings.
• Lead the AOC Legislative Screening Team for reviewing bills and assess potential impacts on the courts.
• Assign bill reviews, track completion, quality, and timeliness of reviews.
• Conduct expert legal analysis to identify statutory conflicts, operational impacts, and fiscal considerations.
• Prepare bill summaries, impact analyses, and briefing materials for leadership.
• Coordinate with the legislative liaison to prioritize bill reviews and ensure coordinated interpretation.
• Manage contracts with a legislative tracking system vendor and provide user support.
• Staff the Board for Judicial Administration Legislative Committee with materials and positions.
• Coordinate post-session implementation work including rule changes and training needs.
• Collaborate with subject-matter experts to gather information and ensure accurate impact representation.
• Provide legal analysis, research, writing, and support to judicial officers and committees.
