Job summary

The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) in Olympia, WA seeks a Senior Staff Attorney to serve as the Legislative Resource and Analysis Coordinator. You will coordinate the internal legislative bill-review process and provide in-depth legal analysis of proposed legislation, supporting governance bodies such as the Board for Judicial Administration and leadership.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
• Active Washington State Bar membership.
• Six years of experience as a practicing attorney or in similar legal work.
• Expert-level legal research, writing, analysis, and communication skills.
• Knowledge of Washington State’s legislative process preferred.
• Experience with courts, judicial committees, the legislature, or in public policy is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate AOC’s internal legislative billreview process and lead crossdivisional billreview meetings.
• Lead the AOC Legislative Screening Team responsible for reviewing bills for court and judicial branch impacts.
• Assign bill reviews to staff and track quality, timeliness, and completion.
• Conduct expert legal analysis of proposed legislation to identify conflicts, operational impacts, and fiscal considerations.
• Prepare bill summaries, impact analyses, and briefing materials for leadership.
• Work with the contract legislative liaison to prioritize reviews and ensure coordinated interpretation.
• Manage the AOC’s contract with a legislative tracking system vendor and provide user support.
• Staff the Board for Judicial Administration Legislative Committee with materials and positions.
• Coordinate post-session implementation work (rule changes, training, reports).
• Collaborate with subject-matter experts to gather information and ensure accurate representations of impacts.
• Provide legal analysis, research, writing, and support to judicial officers and committees.
• Performs other work as assigned.
