Job summary

The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) in Olympia, WA is seeking a Senior Staff Attorney to serve as the Legislative Resource and Analysis Coordinator. You will coordinate the internal legislative bill-review process and provide in-depth legal analysis of proposed legislation for senior leadership and committees.

Qualified candidates will have a JD, bar admission, 6 years of experience, and strong research, writing and communications skills.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school and bar admission in good standing.
• Six years of practice or equivalent experience.
• Experience with legislative processes and legal analysis is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate internal legislative bill-review process and lead cross-divisional bill-review meetings.
• Lead the Legislative Screening Team responsible for reviewing bills for judicial impact.
• Assign bill reviews to staff and track completion, quality, and timeliness.
• Conduct expert legal analysis of proposed legislation focusing on statutory conflicts, operational impacts, and fiscal considerations.
• Prepare bill summaries, impact analyses, and briefing materials for AOC, BJA, and leadership.
• Collaborate with the contract legislative liaison to prioritize bill review and ensure legal interpretation of bills.
• Manage vendor relationship for the legislative tracking system and provide user support.
• Staff the Board for Judicial Administration Legislative Committee with prepared materials and position tracking.
• Coordinate and monitor post-session implementation work and related reports.
