Job summary

Southern Poverty Law Center seeks a Senior Staff Attorney or Staff Attorney committed to dismantling white supremacy through impactful litigation and advocacy. You will engage with communities, develop strategic cases, and collaborate with partners to advance civil rights and justice.

Qualifications

• At least one year of federal court civil litigation or comparable experience post law school (Staff Attorney I–II).
• At least six years of federal court civil litigation or comparable experience post law school (Senior Staff I–IV).
• Membership in good standing of a state bar (preferably FL or nearby states).
• J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Responsibilities

• Draft briefs, motions, memos, written discovery, and other documents in support of litigation.
• Conduct depositions and represent clients in court.
• Represent SPLC in federal and state courts, community groups, coalitions, media outlets, and agencies.
• Develop new cases and campaigns with SPLC staff and community partners.
• Investigate, gather information, and interview clients and witnesses.
• Respond to requests for legal assistance.
• Research and write legal memos and briefs on complex issues.
• Senior Staff Attorneys train and mentor staff and interns.
• Perform other duties within the scope of the role.
• Uphold SPLC's JEDI principles through diverse collaboration.
