Job summary

Southern Poverty Law Center is seeking a Senior Staff Attorney or Staff Attorney committed to dismantling white supremacy. The role focuses on litigation, advocacy, and strategic campaigns in coordination with community partners.

The position involves drafting, depositions, and representing clients in multiple fora, with a emphasis on advancing SPLC's mission and values through innovative, collaborative work. Remote/telework options may be available along with local office engagement.

Qualifications

• Minimum: J.D. from ABA-accredited law school; admission to a state bar; 1 year federal court civil litigation for Staff Attorney I-II or 6+ years for Senior Staff I-IV.
• Experience litigating in federal and state courts at trial and appellate levels.
• Experience with community organizations and advocacy to dismantle white supremacy.

Responsibilities

• Draft briefs, motions, memos, and discovery in support of litigation.
• Conduct depositions and represent clients in court.
• Represent SPLC in courts, community groups, media, and agencies.
• Develop new cases and campaigns with SPLC staff and partners.
• Investigate, gather information, and interview clients/witnesses.
• Respond to requests for legal assistance.
• Research and write memos and briefs on complex legal/factual questions.
• Train and mentor junior staff and interns.
