Job summary

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) seeks a Senior Staff Attorney or Staff Attorney for the Inclusion and Anti-Extremism (IAE) Advocacy and Litigation Team. The attorney will investigate, develop and litigate cases challenging hate groups and white supremacists, advocating for communities targeted by extremism.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school, admitted to the bar in good standing.
• At least one year of federal court civil litigation (Staff Attorney I–II) or six years (Senior Staff I–IV).
• Membership in good standing of at least one state bar in the United States; preference for AL/GA/LA/MS/FL/DC.

Responsibilities

• Draft briefs, motions, memos, discovery requests and other litigation documents.
• Conduct depositions and represent clients in court.
• Represent SPLC in federal/state courts, community groups, coalitions and agencies.
• Develop new cases and campaigns with staff and community partners.
• Investigate, gather information and interview clients and witnesses.
• Respond to requests for legal assistance.
• Research and write legal memos and briefs on complex questions.
• Senior Staff Attorneys train and mentor legal staff and interns.
• Perform other duties within the scope of the job classification.
• Uphold JEDI principles by fostering diverse collaboration aligned with SPLC's mission.
