Fivetran is hiring a Senior Staff R&D Software Engineer to join our fast-growing AI team in Oakland, CA. You’ll research AI techniques, prototype ideas, and ship production software, shaping the technical direction across Fivetran AI.

We expect a true generalist who thrives in ambiguity, with 10+ years in Python/Java and a track record of influencing architecture. This role combines backend, frontend, SRE, and QA work in a startup-like environment.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of programming experience across Python and/or Java.
• Willing to work across backend, frontend, and SRE/QA as needed.
• Strong mentoring and leadership across engineers.
• Experience with AI tooling and production systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify AI techniques worth pursuing and set technical roadmap.
• Prototype ideas and ship production features.
• Define cross‑department technical direction across AI and collaborating teams.
• Build and maintain backend and frontend systems for Fivetran AI.
• Own production reliability including on-call and incident response.
• Mentor senior engineers and influence technical decisions across departments.
