Job summary

Capital One seeks an AI Staff Engineer to help build an enterprise AI native platform enabling AI-assisted analysis across the business. You will design and deploy AI components, train foundations models, and optimize LLM inference using a broad tech stack including PyTorch, vector databases, and guardrails.

You will work with engineers, scientists, PMs, and leaders to drive the roadmap, tackle complex problems, and deliver high-impact solutions in a remote-friendly environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or AI with 8+ years of AI/ML experience, or Master's with 6+ years.
• At least 8 years of experience programming with Python, Go, Scala, or Java.
• Preferred: 8 years deploying scalable AI solutions on cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure or equivalent).

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products for associates and customers.
• Design, develop, test, deploy and support AI software components including model training and inference.
• Leverage Open Source and SaaS AI tech such as AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs and PyTorch.
• Invent state-of-the-art LLM optimization techniques to improve performance, cost and latency.
• Contribute to the long-term technical vision and roadmap of foundational AI systems.
