Job summary

Boston Dynamics is seeking a Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer to lead the Actuation Technology team on Atlas actuators. You will drive actuator design from architecture through production release, ensuring reliability in high‑rigor environments and coordinating with suppliers and manufacturing to optimize cost and manufacturability.

You will mentor engineers, perform design reviews, and manage risk with FMEAs and validation plans for complex electromechanical systems. Travel 10–20% is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years of professional experience in electromechanical product design and launch.
• 10%-20% international travel to support global supplier and partner network.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for actuator product design and release from architecture to manufacturing.
• Lead CAD completion and create complete drawing packages with GD&T and tolerance analysis.
• Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing teams to optimize designs for assembly, cost, and long-term reliability.
• Mentor and develop engineers, conduct design reviews, foster an inclusive team environment.
• Manage technical risk via FMEAs, validation planning, and due diligence on moving assemblies.
