Job summary

Vaco is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant for a large, multi-entity healthcare services organization in San Diego, CA. The role requires hands-on GL and revenue accounting experience to navigate a complex environment and help improve processes and systems.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, strong analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams across onshore and offshore accounting groups. CPA a plus but not required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with strong general ledger and close experience.
• Experience in a complex, multi-entity organization with $500M+ in annual revenue.
• Strong analytical skills to investigate discrepancies across large data sets and multiple systems.

• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including account reconciliations and flux analysis.
• Analyze complex accounts receivable, deferred revenue, bad debt reserves, and revenue recognition.
• Maintain accurate financial reporting, internal controls, and GAAP compliance.
• Partner with leadership and operational teams to resolve accounting issues and support business initiatives.
• Collaborate with onshore and offshore accounting teams to improve accuracy, consistency, and efficiency.
• Identify process improvement opportunities and help standardize accounting procedures across multiple systems and business units.
• Support external audits and related reporting requirements.

This is a hands-on role for someone with strong GL and revenue accounting experience who can navigate a complex environment, resolve accounting discrepancies, and help improve processes and systems.

Healthcare, dental, or medical services experience is a major plus, particularly exposure to insurance receivables, third-party payors, and complex revenue streams. Experience with offshore accounting teams, ERP systems, and a CPA are also preferred, but not required.
