We are seeking a detail-oriented, hands-on Senior Accountant with 5+ years experience to manage day-to-day accounting across three affiliated small businesses with fewer than 60 employees combined. This role owns AR, AP, payroll, and tax preparation, keeping each set of books clean and on schedule. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and comfortable working closely with leadership and our outside CPA firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage accounts receivable for all three businesses, including invoicing, payment application, and collections
- Process accounts payable and payment runs, maintain vendor records, and file annual 1099s
- Run payroll for all three businesses, including new hires, terminations, PTO tracking, and benefit deductions
- Ensure accurate payroll tax deposits and quarterly and annual filings (941, 940, state, and W-2s)
- Prepare and file sales and use tax and other recurring returns
- Prepare year-end workpapers and support the outside CPA firm on income tax returns
- Complete the monthly close for each business, including bank and credit card reconciliations
- Produce monthly financial statements for each business, plus a combined view for leadership
- Account for intercompany transactions, shared costs, and allocations consistently
- Support annual budgeting and track actuals against budget
- Follow and help strengthen internal controls appropriate for a small team
- Document procedures so the function runs smoothly during absences or growth
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- Approximately 5+ years of accounting experience, including full-cycle AR, AP, and payroll.
- Experience keeping books for multiple businesses; intercompany accounting a plus.
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP, payroll tax, and sales tax compliance.
- Proficiency with [QuickBooks Online / Xero] and a major payroll platform.
- Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills.
- High integrity and discretion with confidential financial and employee information.
- CPA, CMA, or interest in pursuing certification is a plus.
