Job summary

Confidential in Pittsburgh, PA seeks an experienced Controller / Accounting Manager (CPA) to lead accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance. You will supervise daily accounting activities and drive accurate month-end and year-end closes.

The role requires hands-on leadership, strong technical accounting expertise, and ability to manage accounting teams in a fast-paced environment. CPA preferred and ERP/QuickBooks experience desirable.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with supervision.

We are seeking an experienced Controller / Accounting Manager (CPA) to lead the company's accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance functions. This role will oversee the day-to-day accounting activities, ensure the accuracy of financial statements, manage month-end and year-end close processes, and provide strategic financial guidance to leadership. The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting professional with strong leadership skills, technical accounting expertise, and experience managing accounting teams in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting and bookkeeping functions, including bank reconciliations and daily accounting operations.
• Reconcile and maintain balance sheet accounts, including fixed assets, loans, debt, equity, and other key accounts.
• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice processing, collections, and vendor payments.
• Oversee payroll processing, payroll tax reconciliations, W-2 reporting, and related payroll liabilities.
• Prepare and file sales tax returns and ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations.
• Manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
• Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Investigate financial variances and provide recommendations to improve financial performance.
• Prepare and review business and individual tax returns.
• Communicate financial results, recommendations, and accounting matters to clients and management.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, internal controls, and company policies.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, workflows, and operational efficiencies.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and strategic financial planning initiatives.
• Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory agencies as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including management or supervisory responsibilities.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and regulatory compliance.
• Experience managing audits, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis.
• Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership abilities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Public accounting experience (Preferred)

Required Skills

• Strong expertise in general ledger accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks Online (QBO) and QuickBooks Desktop (QBD).
• Experience managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and sales tax functions.
• Familiarity with payroll platforms such as ADP and Paychex.
• Strong understanding of financial reporting, financial statement preparation, and month-end close processes.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to analyze and present financial data.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to clients and stakeholders.
