Job summary

Backblaze seeks a results-driven Reliability Engineer to own the availability and durability of critical services across production environments. You will define SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets, escalate thresholds, and participate in incident response and post-incident reviews.

Design automation for common tasks, define monitoring and alerting frameworks, and work with Terraform, Ansible, and Jenkins to strengthen CI/CD and infrastructure as code.

Job description

• Own the availability and durability of critical services across production environments and be accountable for outcomes.
• Define SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets, and escalate issues when thresholds are at risk.
• Participate in leadership on-call rotations, incident response, and post-incident reviews.

Architect and Design:

• Design automation for common operational tasks to reduce manual intervention and toil.
• Define monitoring, logging, and alerting frameworks such as Prometheus, Grafana, Catchpoint, and ELK.
• Work with CI/CD pipelines, configuration management, and infrastructure as code tools like Terraform, Ansible, and Jenkins.
• Partner with engineering, customer success, product, and operations teams to support resilient system design.
• Work with customers and vendors to ensure stability prioritization and track SLA performance.
• Document systems, share learnings, and help grow a reliability-minded engineering culture.
• Lead cross-functional teams to identify gaps in observability and define overall prioritization strategy.
• Identify recurring issues, propose long-term improvements, and design action plans for implementation.
• Promote reliability-focused practices within development and operations teams.
