Job summary

Mattermost is seeking a Lead Site Reliability Engineer to guide architecture, reliability, and operational excellence for our secure collaboration platform used across defense and government sectors.

You will lead a global, remote-first SRE team, design scalable containerized workloads, IaC, and compliant cloud environments (FedRAMP, DoD), and drive observability, incident response, and cost optimization across AWS, GCP, and Azure.

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, or related field, with 5+ years in SRE/DevOps.
• Proven expertise in container orchestration, ideally Kubernetes.
• Extensive experience with infrastructure as code, ideally Terraform.
• Strong cloud background, ideally AWS.
• Experience designing monitoring, alerting, and performance optimization.
• Excellent troubleshooting and incident management for distributed systems.
• Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language for automation.
• Strong communication and ability to influence cross-functional teams.
• Experience leading globally distributed teams in a remote-first environment.

Responsibilities

• Define strategy and roadmap for Mattermost's SRE function.
• Lead production-grade containerized workloads and IaC deployments.
• Evolve observability, monitoring, and alerting frameworks at scale.
• Drive incident management, on-call rotations, and RCA improvements.
• Collaborate with security/compliance for data sovereignty and regulations.
• Champion automation to reduce risk and scale operations.
• Oversee cloud cost management and capacity planning.
• Build and maintain a developer platform for secure software delivery.
• Mentor SRE team members and promote technical excellence.
