Job summary

Medallia is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to operate and improve the GovCloud-based cloud platform for federal and regulated customers. The role is hybrid, located near Tysons, VA, with regular in-office collaboration and remote flexibility.

You will own production systems, partner with engineering and security teams, and drive reliability at scale. You will design secure networking, manage PostgreSQL, implement IaC with Terraform and Kubernetes workflows, and maintain observability

Qualifications

• Must reside in the United States and be legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, or related production infrastructure roles.
• Production experience with Kubernetes, cloud networking on AWS/GCP/Azure or similar, Terraform or IaC tools, Git and CI/CD pipelines, Linux and foundational systems concepts, PostgreSQL in production, replication, backups, and performance tuning.
• Proficiency in Python and/or Go for automation and tooling.
• Experience troubleshooting production incidents, RCA, and change management processes.
• Experience participating in a production on-call rotation.
• Experience writing clear documentation, runbooks and incident post-mortems.

Responsibilities

• Build, operate, and improve highly available, secure cloud infrastructure on AWS, including networking, access management, Kubernetes clusters, DNS, certificates, and shared platform services.
• Design and operate AWS cloud networking end-to-end - VPC architecture, subnetting, routing, security groups/NACLs, VPC endpoints, PrivateLink, Transit Gateway, load balancing, DNS.
• Operate and tune production PostgreSQL with high availability, backups, replication, and capacity planning.
• Monitor production systems, respond to incidents, and drive fixes to improve reliability.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform) and Kubernetes deployment workflows with Git, CI/CD, and GitOps practices.
• Improve observability across metrics, logs, and uptime monitoring; tune alerts and runbooks.
• Collaborate with engineering, security, and release management to deploy changes safely.
• Contribute to platform upgrades, security patching, and compliance-driven maintenance in a regulated cloud environment.
• Participate in on-call rotation for production support.
• Document systems and operational procedures clearly.
• Use AI-assisted tooling responsibly with attention to security and data boundaries.
• Candidates based in the Tysons vicinity will be prioritized as this role is Hybrid, 3 days per week onsite.
