Job summary

tastytrade, part of IG Group, seeks a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to define reliability and SLOs for order execution and market data delivery. You will embed with infra and app teams, applying patterns across Ruby, Java, and Elixir services on Nomad.

You’ll extend observability with OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and Grafana, mentor engineers, and shape a culture of reliability from day one in Chicago.

Qualifications

• Production-quality coding in Ruby/Java, plus Python automation.
• Embedding SRE practices within engineering teams (SLOs, error budgets).
• Hands-on with OpenTelemetry, Prometheus and Grafana for instrumentation.
• Strong Linux networking fundamentals and on-call experience.

Responsibilities

• Define customer-meaningful SLOs and set error budgets with multi-window burn-rate alerting for critical brokerage flows.
• Author the reliability standards, including SLO methodology and observability guides.
• Contribute reliability patterns (circuit breakers, retries, bulkheads, load-shedding) across services.
