Job summary

VETRO FiberMap seeks a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to scale the global platform and deliver next-gen GIS fiber management software. You will own reliability, cloud infrastructure, observability, and incident management while collaborating with Engineering, Security, Product, and Customer teams.

The role is hybrid at our Portland, ME HQ with on-call rotations and a strong emphasis on automation, CI/CD, and security best practices.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, GIS, or significant professional experience.
• 5 years of experience in SRE, DevOps, Platform Engineering, Cloud Infrastructure, or a similar role.
• Provisioning, deploying, and supporting highly available cloud-based infrastructure on AWS or similar platforms.
• Applying DevOps and CI/CD practices in an Agile software development lifecycle.
• Strong understanding of monitoring, logging, observability, and incident management.
• Troubleshooting complex distributed systems across applications, databases, networks, and infrastructure.
• Strong scripting or Agile software engineering skills; proficient in Python and Bash.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and PostGIS.
• Data and systems security with SOC 2 compliance awareness.
• Strong problem solving and collaboration in a growth-stage environment.

Responsibilities

• Establish and improve SLIs/SLOs, monitoring, alerting, and platform health.
• Build, operate, and optimize scalable cloud infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code and modern deployment practices.
• Ensure observability of performance, failures, dependencies, and customer impact.
• Improve detection, response, root-cause analysis, postmortems, and prevention of recurring incidents; participate in on-call rotations.
• Automate deployments, remediation, infrastructure management, capacity planning, and repetitive operational work.
• Scale the VETRO FiberMap platform using modern cloud infrastructure tools and architectures.
• Identify bottlenecks and optimize performance for large datasets (Postgres, PostGIS, NATS, mapping/tile services).
• Design and develop platform tools to empower engineers; improve CI/CD, deployment safety, environments, tooling, and self-service.
• Apply security best practices; assist with SOC 2 audits, access controls, backups, and disaster recovery.
• Explore AI and automation to accelerate troubleshooting and reduce operational toil.
• Monitor cloud utilization and drive cost-efficient infrastructure.
