Job summary

Cognizant is seeking an experienced SQL Server Database Administrator to join our enterprise infrastructure team. The role focuses on administration, performance tuning, security, availability, and modernization of Microsoft SQL Server environments across production, development, and DR platforms.

You will support large-scale production systems, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and drive HA/DR initiatives including Always On and cloud-based DB services, with opportunities for automation

Qualifications

8+ years of SQL Server DBA experience.
Experience with HA/DR techs: Always On, Clustering, Replication, Mirroring, Log Shipping.
Performance tuning and query optimization.
Backup and recovery administration.
T‑SQL development and troubleshooting.
Production support experience.
Windows Server administration.

Responsibilities

Administer and optimize SQL Server environments across prod, dev, test, and DR.
Monitor health, performance, availability, and capacity; tune queries and indexes.
Troubleshoot complex DB issues including bottlenecks, blocking, and outages.
Design and support HA/DR solutions (Always On, Clustering, Replication, Mirroring, Log Shipping).
Develop and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
Support apps by troubleshooting T-SQL, procedures, views, triggers.
Participate in architecture reviews, migrations, upgrades, and modernization.
Automate routine tasks using SQL Server Agent and PowerShell.
Maintain monitoring dashboards and runbooks; Azure DB platforms.
