Job summary

Garmin International is seeking a Senior Database Administrator at its U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. You will lead database design, performance tuning, and security operations to support enterprise systems across engineering, operations, finance, sales, and marketing.

You will mentor junior DBAs, manage SQL Server environments (Always On, upgrades, OS migrations), and participate in incident management with a strong focus on reliability and cost-effective solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/IT/MIS or related field with 5+ years of DB admin experience.
• Proficient with SQL Server (up through 2025) and Always On.
• Experience upgrading SQL Server and diagnosing performance issues.
• Windows OS migrations experience.
• Ability to implement new technologies and communicate effectively.
• Experience mentoring DBAs in a team setting.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and optimize existing database systems.
• Configure and administer enterprise SQL Server environments.
• Collaborate on database security and SOX compliance.
• Manage database access structures (tables, indexes, views, etc.).
• Administer replication across LAN/WAN.
• Provide 24x7 on-call support.
• Lead incident troubleshooting and roadmap planning.
• Mentor junior DBAs.
