Job summary

UDR Consulting in Charleston, West Virginia seeks a Senior SQL Server Database Administrator to design, install, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server environments, including Azure SQL Managed Instance. You’ll collaborate with developers and operations in an Agile/Scrum setting to ensure reliability and scalability.

Key duties: performance tuning, HADR, cloud/hybrid management, security, and automation with PowerShell, T-SQL, or Python.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server operations, maintenance, and upgrades (SQL Server 2008+).
• Proficiency in T-SQL and stored procedures.
• Experience migrating SQL Server versions and handling DTS to SSIS transitions.
• Experience installing, configuring, and monitoring SSIS/SSAS/SSRS for SQL Server 2008.
• Strong backup and recovery expertise for SQL Server environments.

Responsibilities

• Database Architecture & Design: Architecting, configuring, and installing scalable Microsoft SQL Server modules and data models.
• Performance Tuning: Advanced query optimization, indexing strategies, and baseline tuning.
• HADR: Designing robust backup/restore and high-availability solutions like Always On.
• Cloud & Hybrid Management: Managing Azure SQL Managed Instances, Azure Storage, and hybrid databases.
• Security & Compliance: Establishing data access controls, encryption, and audits.
• Automation: Writing PowerShell, Python, or T-SQL scripts to automate tasks.
• Collaboration & Leadership: Partnering with developers, infrastructure teams, and project managers in Agile/Scrum; mentoring juniors.
