Job summary

UKG is seeking a Database Engineer to design, develop, and maintain SQL Server-based database infrastructure powering enterprise SaaS applications.

You will design scalable architectures for high availability and performance, review SQL code, promote standards, and mentor engineers across database initiatives. The role includes performance tuning, CI/CD automation, and IaC with Terraform/Ansible, with on-site work three days per week at UKG offices.

Qualifications

• 7+ years as a Database Engineer/DBA/DB Developer for enterprise relational DBs.
• Strong expertise with MS SQL Server, Always On AG, SSIS/SSRS/SSAS, replication.
• Experience administering Windows Server; Linux/UNIX a plus.
• Proficiency in Python and/or Shell/PowerShell scripting.
• Proven expertise in performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and capacity planning.
• This role requires onsite work 3 days a week at the UKG office.
• Experience with Azure and GCP cloud infra.
• Experience with Git-based VCS and CI/CD tools (GitHub, Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible).
• Experience with monitoring/observability (Splunk, Grafana).
• Strong communication, collaboration, and mentoring leadership.
• Bachelor's or Master's in CS/Engineering or related field.

Responsibilities

• Design scalable SQL Server-based database architectures for high availability, performance, and reliability.
• Partner with engineering to review SQL code and database designs; promote standards and guidelines; mentor engineers.
• Analyze and optimize database performance; implement improvements across development and production.
• Maintain health and reliability of development/QA DB environments; monitor performance; participate in on-call rotations.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for database development/deployments; automate tasks; plan SQL Server upgrades and AG configurations.
• Create documentation and SOPs; champion automation and operational excellence.
• Stay current with emerging database tech; evaluate new tools to improve scalability and productivity.
