Job summary

Amentum is seeking a senior mechanical engineer to lead design and delivery of complex equipment for nuclear projects at the Oak Ridge, TN site. You will direct scope, schedule, and budget for individual projects while mentoring engineers and ensuring compliance with quality procedures.

The role requires extensive experience in machine design, controls, and CAD/CAE tools, with frequent collaboration with management and clients. US citizenship and a valid driver's license are required.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of engineering experience
• B.S. Engineering from ABET accredited school
• Experience with specialized mechanical equipment
• Experience managing scope, schedule, and budget of projects
• Ability to follow established quality procedures
• Experience with ISO 9000 or NQA-1 quality systems
• Knowledge of machine design, machine-element selection, and machine controls
• Ability to mentor specialty mechanical engineers and designers
• Ability to communicate complex ideas to management and clients
• Experience creating and reviewing complex mechanical calculations
• Competence with SOLIDWORKS, Creo, ANSYS, and CAD/CAE software
• Competence with Microsoft Office software
• U.S. citizenship required
• Valid driver’s license required
• Ability to work in a team atmosphere
• Must pass pre-employment drug and background check
• Ability to work in Oak Ridge office
• Master’s degree is a plus
• DOE Q clearance preferred but not required
• Residence within commutable distance of Oak Ridge, TN office

Responsibilities

• Design machines and select machine elements such as bearings and seals
• Develop hydraulic and electrical machine controls
• Mentor specialty mechanical engineers and designers
• Communicate complex technical ideas to management and clients
• Create and review complex mechanical calculations
• Use SOLIDWORKS, Creo, ANSYS, CAD/CAE, and Microsoft Office software
• Travel occasionally as needed
• Work near construction equipment and in hazardous environments
• Follow ISO 9000 or NQA-1 quality-system practices
• Work in the Oak Ridge office
