Job summary

Amentum is seeking an experienced Mid-Level Mechanical Engineer based in Oak Ridge to design and coordinate building mechanical systems for industrial and government facilities, including HVAC, plumbing, and piping. You will lead mechanical engineering teams, ensure code compliance, and maintain technical quality throughout project lifecycles.

You will interact with project management, discipline leads, and clients to deliver coordinated, high-quality engineering solutions.

Qualifications

• B.S. Mechanical Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• 5+ years in industrial/government mechanical design of HVAC, plumbing, and related building systems.
• Proven ability to lead engineers and designers within budget and schedule.
• Proficiency with discipline-specific tools and codes (e.g., IMC, NFPA, ASHRAE).

Responsibilities

• Design HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems including process piping.
• Act as technical authority for mechanical design within project scope.
• Review calculations, layouts, specifications, and drawings for quality and compliance.
• Resolve complex design issues using advanced engineering judgment.
• Assist with scope definition, equipment sizing, scheduling, and budget control.
• Coordinate designs with structural, electrical, architectural, and process disciplines.
• Interface with clients and stakeholders as a senior technical contributor.
• Provide support during procurement and construction phases, including RFIs and submittals.
