Job summary

Coastal Alabama Community College seeks a Senior Specialist to provide technical support for simulation labs, maintain equipment, and assist faculty and learners in a high-fidelity educational setting.

Job description

The Senior Specialist provides technical support for all simulation laboratory operations to support the educational objectives and missions of the Simulation Program, Division of Nursing and Allied Health, and College. Primary responsibilities include preparation, maintenance, and repair of simulation laboratory equipment and technology (software and hardware), task trainers, and audiovisual and multimedia peripherals; assisting with set up and clean-up of simulation learning activities; providing assistance as needed to faculty and learners in the simulation environment; and other assigned duties.

Appropriate placement on the Alabama Community College System salary schedule E2-3.

At a minimum, the essential functions of this position shall include:
  1. Regular and prompt attendance.
  2. Operates, troubleshoots, cleans, and ensures proper function of all basic equipment, task trainers, high-fidelity manikins, and computers.
  3. Operates, installs, updates, and programs simulation laboratory software and audiovisual equipment, including coordination as needed with College IT and vendor technology support.
  4. Provides autonomous operation of high-fidelity manikins, computers, software platforms, and audiovisual equipment during simulated clinical experiences, briefings, and debriefings.
  5. Prepares simulation laboratory environment, equipment, manikins, task trainers, and supplies for simulated experiences.
  6. Properly breaks down, restocks, and stores simulation laboratory equipment and supplies at the conclusion of simulation experiences.
  7. Assists with management of recording, playback, storage, and cataloguing of simulation videos.
  8. Communicates with faculty and staff to provide technical assistance, support and training in the proper operation of simulation laboratory equipment and supplies as needed.
  9. Participates in curriculum design meetings to facilitate technical planning and delivery for simulation activities.
  10. Assists with simulation laboratory inventory labeling, updates, and maintenance.
  11. Maintains an updated reference list of MSDS, vendor contact information, scenarios, schedules, set-up guides, and other documents as directed.
  12. Acquires and maintains skills and knowledge related to existing and newly acquired technologies.
  13. Reviews emergent technologies and makes recommendations for purchasing.
  14. Generates innovative approaches for technology improvement and integration into healthcare education.
  15. Participates in systems and procedures development.
  16. Assists with special technical projects as assigned.
  17. Assists with external simulation events, including preparation, set up, clean up, and moulage application.

Required Qualifications
  1. Associate’s degree in related or equivalent combination of education/experience in clinical simulation, healthcare field, and/or information technology.
  2. Exhibits excellent communication, organizational, computer, and multimedia skills.
  3. Experience in resolving operational problems related to technology.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree in related or equivalent combination of education/experience in clinical simulation, healthcare field, and/or information technology.
  2. Experience working in an academic institution.
  3. Two years of audio/visual experience and/or two years of computer/IT experience.
  4. Two years of experience working in a simulation laboratory setting, including experience with high-fidelity simulation manikins, equipment and software.
  5. Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) credential.
  6. Ability and eagerness to learn new software and hardware quickly and independently.
