Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) Space Exploration Sector seeks an embedded software developer to tackle challenging space software problems.

You will join a collaborative team delivering flight software and simulations for spacecraft, working with hardware engineers and avionics teams to ensure robust, continuously tested software capable of commanding and relaying data across vast distances.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in CS, EE, or CE or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of software development experience.
  • Expertise in C and C++.
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, Ruby or PERL).
  • Experience with decentralized version control and configuration management systems, such as Git.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, initiative, and independent follow-through.
  • Eligibility for TS/SCI clearance with US citizenship.

Responsibilities

  • Using embedded practices to build spacecraft software.
  • Build and maintain a robust testing pipeline at unit, app, and system levels.
  • Communicate with avionics, networking, navigation, and test teams to define interfaces and requirements.
  • Design, implement and test software for varied embedded environments.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers to deliver a rock-solid software stack.
