Job summary

LASP at the University of Colorado Boulder is seeking a senior electrical engineer to own the electrical architecture for flight and ground electronics. The role involves hands-on hardware development across high‑reliability domains, leading design reviews, and coordinating cross‑disciplinary teams to translate mission needs into robust electrical systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or closely related field with at least 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Technical ownership of complex electronic assemblies or subsystems from requirements through production and integration.
  • Deep expertise in at least one domain (analog, sensor electronics, power, embedded/digital, or high-speed digital design) with breadth across disciplines.
  • Experience leading a technical team or engineering work package and communicating risk to leadership.
  • Familiarity with schematic/PCB design, circuit analysis, and lab testing.
  • Spaceflight or high-consequence hardware experience is valuable but not required for all qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Own the electrical architecture and baseline for complex flight hardware or small spacecraft electrical systems.
  • Translate mission needs into practical requirements, interfaces, budgets, and verification plans.
  • Lead trades on performance, reliability, parts availability, manufacturability, and cost.
  • Guide design reviews, PCB implementation, board bring-up, and environmental qualification.
  • Possibly lead a small technical team and provide recommendations on risk, readiness, staffing, and schedule.
  • Collaborate with systems, FPGA, software, mechanical, and program teams.
