Job summary

Blue Origin LLC in Seattle, WA is seeking a senior controls engineer to own the two-controller machine architecture, PLC processes, and safety logic for our high-precision production systems.

You will write and qualify real-time C++ code, develop HMI screens, create electrical schematics, calibrate encoders, and work with mechanical and electrical teams to deliver production-ready machines while upholding strict safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in EE/Mech/CS or equivalent.
  • 5+ years in machine tool automation and industrial controls.
  • Experience with PLC programming and HMI design.
  • Experience creating/modifying electrical schematics and P&ID drawings.
  • Experience with industrial control networks and servo motion control.
  • Ability to troubleshoot machines in operation and work with safety requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Own the control-system architecture of a two-controller machine including motion and PLC control.
  • Perform PLC software development and maintenance across subsystems including flow, pressure, and diagnostics.
  • Develop and maintain multi-axis motion control and encoder feedback systems.
  • Calibrate geometric error compensation and thermal growth effects in large systems.
  • Develop machine-side application software in C++ with real-time execution.
  • Create electrical schematics and cabinet drawings; collaborate with electricians.
  • Configure fieldbus devices and select appropriate servo motors and drives.
  • Design and validate machine safety logic and E-stop architecture.
  • Create operator-facing HMI screens and diagnostics; enable fault visibility.
  • Instrument machine for data capture and telemetry for fault reconstruction.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and process engineering for cross-discipline integration.
  • Support commissioning, upgrades, and fielded-machine retrofits.
  • Maintain version control of drawings, code, and configurations.
