Job summary

Rocket Lab is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer II – Spacecraft Design to lead the mechanical formulation of new satellite systems and configurations at our Long Beach headquarters. The role covers mass budgets, requirements, trades, verification, and integration of mechanical systems across spacecraft programs.

You will drive concept through production and support cross‑functional teams with timely designs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or related technical field.
• 5+ years of engineering experience in the aerospace industry.
• Experience supporting satellite and/or spacecraft development programs.
• Experience with CAD modeling and drawing.
• US citizenship is required, due to program requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical formulation for satellite systems and spacecraft design from concept through production.
• Manage budgets, requirements, verification, and testing for mechanical systems.
• Develop and maintain mechanical interfaces, structures, mechanisms, and packaging analyses.
• Create and maintain CAD models, production drawings, and test procedures.
• Collaborate with program management, vendors, and internal stakeholders on schedules and budgets.

Education

Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering; or other technical discipline
