Job summary

Rocket Lab, based in Long Beach, CA, seeks a Senior Systems Engineer II – Spacecraft Design to lead mechanical formulation for new satellite systems. You will manage budgets, define configurations, and drive verification across structures, mechanisms, and bus architecture.

You will own design concepts, collaborate with BD and program teams, and guide production through testing and operations, while contributing to a robust total compensation package.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of engineering experience in the aerospace industry.
• Experience supporting satellite and/or spacecraft development programs.
• Experience with CAD modeling and drawing.
• US citizenship is required, due to program requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead satellite mechanical engineering formulation supporting business development and new opportunity capture.
• Develop high performance and lightweight satellite bus configurations, structures, and mechanisms.
• Define mechanisms and deployment systems for modern satellite systems/bus.
• Maintain mass and mechanical budgets and requirements verification techniques.
• Lead mechanical development of spacecraft missions from concept through production, test and operation.
• Create CAD definitions, production drawings, and test/operations procedures.
