Rocket Lab in Long Beach, CA is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer II — Spacecraft Design to lead the mechanical formulation of new satellite systems, including structures, mechanisms, and bus configurations. You will manage budgets, requirements, and verification while supporting business development and strategy.

You will drive CAD modeling, hand‑calcs, and FEA analyses, collaborating with the Space Systems team to deliver high‑performance spacecraft for civil, national security, and commercial

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or other technical discipline.
• 5+ years of aerospace engineering experience.
• Experience with satellite/spacecraft development programs.
• Experience with CAD modeling and drawing.

Responsibilities

• Lead satellite mechanical engineering formulation to support business development and new opportunity capture.
• Develop high performance and lightweight satellite bus configurations, structures, and mechanisms for customers.
• Develop concepts and satellite configurations for high value science and interplanetary missions.
• Define what mechanisms and deployment systems look like on a modern satellite system/bus.
• Lead and own the mechanical technical development of spacecraft missions from concept through production, test, and operation.
