Job summary

Rocket Lab, based in Long Beach, CA, seeks a Senior Systems Engineer I – Spacecraft Design to lead mechanical formulation for new satellite systems. You will manage budgets, requirements, tests, and overall mechanical engineering process, supporting BD and strategy while delivering to leadership and investors.

You will design high-performance bus configurations, mechanisms, and deployment systems, with CAD ownership and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of engineering experience in the aerospace industry.
• Experience supporting satellite and/or spacecraft development programs.
• Experience with CAD modeling and drawing.
• US citizenship is required, due to program requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead satellite mechanical engineering formulation supporting business development and new opportunity capture.
• Develop high performance and lightweight satellite bus configurations, structures, and mechanisms.
• Define mechanisms and deployment systems for modern satellite systems/bus.
• Maintain mechanical budgets, requirements, verification techniques, and analyses.
• Oversee mechanical development from design through production, test, and operation.
• Create and maintain definitions through CAD, drawings, and procedures.
