Job summary

Sierra Space Corporation in Colorado is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering leader to oversee physical integration, assembly, and testing of spaceflight hardware. You will ensure subsystems meet requirements and survive launch environments, guiding architecture and interface control across payloads and the bus.

The role emphasizes collaboration with SV Lead and Chief Engineer, MICD management, and proactive risk mitigation, with a focus on mass properties and design for flight

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience; Masters +8 years allowed.
• Typically 10+ years of related experience or Masters +8 years total.
• Demonstrated expertise in Systems Engineering and SDLC understanding.
• Experience across lifecycle: requirements, derivation, allocation.
• Experience in architecture development, integration, verification and V&V.
• Ability to work with engineers to drive systems engineering outcomes.
• Active Security Clearance is required.

Responsibilities

• Drive proactive Mechanical architecture decisions across the program.
• Lead engineering team focused on cohesive Mechanical system and subsystem design.
• Advise SV Lead and Chief Engineer on system-level impacts and risks.
• Manage physical interfaces and MICDs between payloads, subsystems, and bus.
• Identify and resolve interference issues before hardware floor arrival.
• Monitor system-level mass, CG, and MOI metrics.
• Lead Mechanical test definition and planning.
• Lead Mechanical nonconformance support for AI&T.
• Ensure Mechanical nonconformances are closed.
• Design mechanical systems from concept to production and flight test.
• Support integration, manufacturing, ground test, flight operations; capture lessons.
• Continuously improve engineering workflows, standards and digital capabilities.
• Maintain open and innovative mindset for continuous improvements.
