Job summary

Varda Space Industries in El Segundo, CA is seeking a Senior Thermal Analysis Engineer to develop and maintain thermal system architectures for our space vehicles, collaborating with hardware, production, software, and mission ops.

You will create thermal models, anchor them to test or flight data, and guide TVac testing, while mentoring junior engineers and driving timely solutions as we scale vehicle cadence.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical, Aerospace, or a related discipline (3–6+ years considered).
• 3+ years of experience in passive and active thermal control systems.
• Proficiency in Thermal Desktop, SINDA/FLUINT for detailed thermal analysis.
• Experience anchoring models to test/flight data.
• Experience planning/executing TVac testing.
• MATLAB for data processing/automation.
• Familiarity with thermal margins and SMC-S-016 requirements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain integrated thermal analysis models for space vehicles.
• Create and maintain tools/systems for model and flight data processing.
• Ensure spacecraft stays within operating and survival limits via passive/active thermal control.
• Collaborate with other spacecraft disciplines to drive improvements.
• Plan, execute, and anchor models to TVac testing.
• Provide guidance to vehicle level testing (thermal bakeout, VITL, hot-fire, etc.).
• Work independently with minimal oversight.
• Mentor junior engineers and serve as a technical reviewer.
